Why We Only Deploy eero PoE 7 + Firewalla in Central Florida

If you're researching network upgrades for a Lake Nona, Harmony West, or St. Cloud estate, you've probably compared Ubiquiti UniFi and eero PoE 7. We get that question almost every discovery call. The honest answer: Connected Estate does not deploy Ubiquiti hardware in Central Florida. We exclusively configure eero PoE 7 access points paired with Firewalla Gold, Gold Plus, or Gold Pro depending on the estate size and traffic load.
Here's why that is our standard — and why we believe it's the right fit for the homes we serve.
Quick answer: Connected Estate exclusively deploys eero PoE 7 + Firewalla Gold for Central Florida estates, never Ubiquiti UniFi.
- UniFi requires planned firmware update windows, a dedicated rack, and support that spans three separate vendors
- eero PoE 7 + Firewalla Gold is enterprise-grade in capability but simple in day-to-day operation
- Firewalla model sized to the estate: Gold (3,000–6,000 sq ft, 50–100 devices), Gold Plus (6,000–10,000 sq ft, 100–200 devices, 1 GbE), Gold Pro (10,000+ sq ft, 200+ devices, multi-gig ISP)
Why we don't deploy Ubiquiti UniFi
Ubiquiti UniFi is a powerful platform. In a corporate data center or a campus with a full-time IT staff, it makes sense. But in our experience configuring Central Florida luxury estates, it introduces complexity that most homeowners do not want to own:
- Firmware discipline — UniFi requires planned update windows and occasional rollback testing. A firmware regression on a holiday weekend is not something we want our clients troubleshooting.
- Rack dependency — The full UniFi experience assumes a dedicated rack, PoE switches, and a Dream Machine or UXG gateway. Many of our clients want the network to disappear into a closet, not become a hobby.
- Support fragmentation — When an issue arises, the line between Ubiquiti support, installer support, and ISP support gets blurry fast.
We made a deliberate decision to standardize on a stack that is enterprise-grade in capability but consumer-simple in day-to-day operation.
What we actually deploy
Our reference architecture for every Central Florida estate:
eero PoE 7 + Firewalla Gold / Gold Plus / Gold Pro
- Three to five eero PoE 7 units depending on square footage, construction materials, and outdoor coverage needs. Wi-Fi 7 coverage, true mesh handoff, and enterprise-grade hardware reliability, sourced through the same professional dealer channel as our Firewalla gateways.
- Firewalla Gold (or Gold Plus / Gold Pro for 2.5 GbE+ estates) at the network edge. This is the "digital moat" — deep packet inspection, intrusion detection and prevention, geographic blocking, VPN server, ad blocking, and family rules.
- Segmented networks — IoT devices, guest access, primary family network, and AV/control systems isolated by policy. Firewalla handles the segmentation; eero handles the Wi-Fi.
VLANs and network segmentation
VLANs are how a hacked smart bulb is prevented from seeing your laptop. They're non-negotiable in an estate with cameras, locks, AV, and family devices sharing the same infrastructure.
eero PoE 7 supports multiple SSIDs and a guest network. For the deep segmentation luxury estates require, we pair eero with Firewalla and let Firewalla enforce the policy. The result: enterprise-grade isolation without a rack full of switches.
The "digital moat" — why Firewalla is non-negotiable
We do not configure any estate without a Firewalla Gold (or Gold Plus / Gold Pro for higher throughput). It is a dedicated security appliance, not a bolt-on feature:
- Deep packet inspection and intrusion detection / prevention
- Per-device and per-network family rules
- Geographic IP blocking and active protect
- Built-in VPN server for remote access
- Ad blocking and social-hour controls
- A mobile app the homeowner actually opens
Firewalla sits between your ISP and your eero network. It's the moat; the eeros are the keep.
Hardware reliability in Central Florida
Central Florida heat and humidity are real factors. eero PoE 7 hardware is engineered for continuous, professional-grade operation — ventilated, silent, and designed for over-the-air updates without user intervention. We place units in conditioned spaces, never sealed cabinets, and we size the Firewalla model to the estate's actual throughput (Gold, Gold Plus, or Gold Pro).
How we right-size the Firewalla
| Estate Profile | Recommended Firewalla |
|---|---|
| 3,000–6,000 sq ft, 50–100 devices | Firewalla Gold |
| 6,000–10,000 sq ft, 100–200 devices, 1 GbE ISP | Firewalla Gold Plus |
| 10,000+ sq ft, 200+ devices, multi-gig ISP, heavy AV streaming | Firewalla Gold Pro |
We assess this during the Estate Discovery and spec the exact model — you own the hardware at cost; we own the design and the documentation.
Configuration only — no construction
As with every engagement, we configure only. No drilling, no mounting, no wiring, no TV hanging. We design the network architecture, document it, and hand you a secure, fully segmented system that your family can operate from a phone app.
Ready to spec your estate?
If you'd rather not guess how many eero PoE 7 units you need or which Firewalla model fits your ISP speed, book an Estate Discovery and we'll spec the exact architecture for your home — fully documented, privacy-first, and built to disappear into the background.

Why Every eero PoE 7 Access Point Gets Its Own Cat6A Home Run (Not a Wireless Hop)
A three-node consumer mesh kit doesn't triple your Wi-Fi — it splits one radio's bandwidth across every hop back to the router. Here's why Connected Estate runs dedicated Cat6A to every eero PoE 7 access point instead of letting them talk to each other wirelessly.

Every device on a stock router shares one broadcast domain — the pool pump controller can see the NAS, and a guest's phone can see the cameras. Here's why Firewalla Gold Pro and hardware-enforced VLANs are the professional fix for St. Cloud and Harmony estates.
